Faster broadband for council homes

Brent Council will be installing high-speed broadband across council-owned properties in the borough.

The council is working in partnership with approved broadband providers to ensure as many residents and businesses as possible benefit from high speed broadband services.

This is part of Brent’s commitment to embrace the opportunities presented by digital innovation, and to improve access to online services and deliver better services.

The broadband providers will first carry out surveys of blocks to help them plan the best way to install their services. In the coming weeks and months, broadband providers’ operatives will be on council estates, planning the best way to implement the service. Surveys will be approved by the council before installation is allowed to begin.

It’s not just residents in council-owned properties who will benefit. At a later stage, around 80% of all residential properties will have access to the new network as well as 50% of businesses. The improved connectivity will support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and the digital economy in Brent.

Some community centres in the borough will also benefit from free broadband connections where digital inclusion training sessions will be held. These sessions will give residents the tools and skills to get online and access digital services.
